My Favorite Memories with My Mom

Mothers play a special role in shaping our lives and creating memories that last a lifetime. As I reflect on my favorite memories with my mom, I am filled with gratitude and love for all the special moments we have shared together.  I particularly loved it when she would come and see me in my youth at school track meets when I won.

1. Baking Together

I'm sure one of the favorite things my sister enjoyed doing with my mom was baking. From a young age, she taught us the joy of creating delicious treats and cookies from scratch or even 'thin pancakes'. I have fond memories of us spending hours in the kitchen when she was mixing, measuring, and laughing together with us. I can still smell the scent of freshly baked cookies, etc. and hear the sound of our laughter filling the room as we tasted the finished products, be they chocholate chip or peanut butter cookies (or even those boiled, dark brown kind)!

2. Shopping Trips

My mom has always had a keen eye for style and fashion. Some of my favorite memories with her involve shopping trips where she would help me pick out the perfect outfit for school. Every year we would go school shopping for clothes and supplies.  Her impeccable taste and attention to detail have influenced my own sense of style, and I am grateful for her guidance and support.

3. Movie Nights

There is nothing better than curling up on the couch with my mom and watching our favorite movies together. Whether it's a classic film or a new release, we always had a great time laughing, crying, and sharing in the experience together. These movie nights are a cherished tradition that I will always hold dear to my heart.  Particularly fun, were watching movies at drive-in theatres we used to go to!

4. Travel Adventures

Both my mom and dad encouraged us  to explore the world and experience new settings, new scenery, new cultures, etc.... such as our trips to Mexico with my parents in the camper or car.  Some of my favorite memories with her involve traveling to different countries and immersing ourselves in the local customs and traditions, such as riding horses at a fast trot on the seashore. From fishing, hiking and camping in the mountains to going to different campgrounds or lounging on the beach like at Salten Sea, these travel adventures created childhood memories that Linda and I will treasure forever.

5. Heart-to-Heart Talks

One of the things I love the most about my mom is her ability to listen and offer sage advice. We have had countless heart-to-heart talks over the years, where she has provided me with guidance, support, and unconditional love. I cherish these moments and feel grateful to have such a wonderful confidant in my life. I only wish she were still alive!  She died February 4, 2025.

In conclusion, my mom is not only my parent but also my best friend and mentor. The memories we have created together are a testament to the special bond we shared. I am grateful for all the love, laughter, and support she has given me throughout the years, and I was looking forward to creating many more cherished memories with her in the future.  Unfortunately now all I can do is reflect on and remember what we had!  That's what happens when people die.  Nevertheless, I shall engage in many creative tasks to help her memory live on!
