Solitaire: How to Play

Solitaire is a classic card game that can be played alone, providing entertainment and mental stimulation. The game's objective is to manipulate a deck of cards by following certain rules to create foundation piles in ascending order.

Setting Up the Game

Start by shuffling a standard deck of 52 playing cards. Then, lay out a tableau of seven columns, with the leftmost column containing one card, the second column containing two cards, and so on, until the rightmost column has seven cards. The cards in each column should be face-down, except for the top card which should be face-up. Place the remaining deck face-down in the upper-left corner of the playing area.

Gameplay

The objective of Solitaire is to arrange all cards into four foundation piles, each beginning with an Ace and ending with a King. To do this, you must follow specific rules:

1. Build Tableau Columns: Play cards in descending order, alternating colors. For example, you can place a red 6 on top of a black 7. Face-up cards can be moved, while face-down cards cannot be accessed until the cards above them are removed.
2. Turn Over Tableau Cards: If a face-down card is exposed by removing the face-up card on top, turn it face-up.
3. Create Foundation Piles: Transfer Ace cards from the tableau or the top of the deck to the foundation piles. Next, build the foundation piles up in ascending order, using cards of the same suit. For instance, place a 2 of hearts on top of an Ace of hearts, then a 3 of hearts on top of the 2 of hearts, and so on.
4. Move Cards Between Tableau Columns: You can form sequences of descending order by moving face-up cards or sequences of cards to other tableau columns. The cards being moved must be in descending order and with alternating colors.
5. Use the Deck: If there are no more moves available in the tableau, you can draw cards one at a time from the stockpile. These cards can be played to either the tableau or the foundation piles. Once the stockpile is exhausted, turn it over to create a new one. This can only be done once throughout the game.
