Solitaire Top is a popular card game that has been played by millions of people around the world for decades. Also known as Klondike or Patience, Solitaire is a fun and challenging game that can be played alone using a standard deck of 52 cards. In this article, we will explore the basics of Solitaire Top, how to play, and some tips to improve your skills.
The objective of Solitaire Top is to build four foundation piles, each representing a suit (hearts, clubs, diamonds, and spades) and arranged in ascending order from Ace to King. The game starts with all the cards shuffled and dealt into seven tableau piles. The primary goal is to move the cards around and build up each foundation pile until all cards are in their designated piles and arranged in the correct order.
To start the game, the cards are dealt into seven tableau piles. The first pile contains one card, the second pile has two cards (one face-up and one face-down), the third pile has three cards (one face-up and two face-down), and so on until the seventh pile which has seven cards (one face-up and six face-down). The remainder of the deck forms the stock, located at the top left corner.
The cards in the tableau can only be moved if they are arranged in descending order and alternating colors. For example, a red Queen can be placed on top of a black King, and vice versa. The face-up cards can be moved either to form a descending sequence on top of another card in the tableau or to an empty tableau pile.
If a tableau pile becomes empty, you can move a King (or any sequence starting with a King) to that pile. However, only Kings can start an empty tableau pile.
If you cannot make any moves within the tableau piles, you can turn over a card from the stock and place it face-up in the waste pile, located at the top left corner beside the stock. You can then move the top card from the waste pile to the tableau or foundation piles if possible.
The game continues until you have either completed all foundation piles, or you can no longer make any moves. If you successfully build all foundation piles in ascending order from Ace to King, you win the game.
