The plot revolves around Bridget, who, after breaking up with Mark Darcy, her long-term love interest, finds herself single once again. As she enters her 40s, Bridget decides to focus on her career as a news producer and embrace the single life.

However, her life takes an unexpected turn when she attends a music festival with her friend Miranda. There, she encounters the handsome and charming American, Jack Qwant, played by Patrick Dempsey. The two have a passionate one-night stand, leaving Bridget feeling conflicted about her feelings for both Jack and Mark.

Just a few days later, Bridget attends the christening of her friend Jude's baby, where she is reintroduced to Mark, portrayed by Colin Firth. The two share a spark and end up in bed together, adding even more complexity to Bridget's love triangle.

Soon after these encounters, Bridget discovers that she is pregnant but isn't sure who the father is. Both Mark and Jack are potential candidates, and Bridget decides to keep the pregnancy a secret from both of them, creating a whirlwind of humorous situations and misunderstandings.

Throughout the film, Bridget navigates the challenges of pregnancy while trying to keep everyone in the dark about her dilemma. She leans on her friends, including her feisty coworker, Shazza, portrayed by Sally Phillips, for support and advice.
